Among the rugged mountain landscapes of Ladakh, lives possibly the most elusive of the big cats: the Snow Leopard. While most only get to see pugmarks of this almost-mythical animal, our trained guides and local trackers always ensure a glimpse of this magnificent predator in its natural habitat, as well as enjoy the other unique wildlife that this high-altitude habitat has to offer. The locals of the area are our support system and one gets enthralling insights into local folklore, as well as learn about their customs and traditions.
A 15 minutes walk from the center of Leh town takes you to this beautiful and quiet retreat with 17 well appointed rooms, each with an astounding view. Meals: Lunch & Dinner Accommodation: Hotel Mahey Retreat or Similar Take a flight from Delhi to Leh (on own). This must be one of the most sensational flights in the world. On a clear day from one side of the aircraft can be seen in the distance the peaks of K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum and on the other side of the aircraft, so close that you feel you could reach out and touch it, is the Nun Kun massif. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the hotel. You would take some time to settle in and acclimatize since you have gone from a relatively low elevation in New Delhi to over 11,000 feet!. Overnight in a hotel.
Meals: Breakfast Accommodation: Hotel Mahey Retreat or Similar Rest in the morning in Leh to get further acclimated to the elevation. In the afternoon, you can go for the sightseeing around Leh. Overnight stay.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Accommodation: Fully serviced camps Morning drive from Leh to Zinghchan. This is where the main part of your adventure starts. Zingchan is the entry point to the Rumbak Valley, the home of the Snow Leopard. The bleak landscape may look incapable of supporting life but look closer and you will be proven wrong. Even here, there are animals and birds uniquely evolved to handle life in a region like this, not to mention many people whose cultures and traditions have been shaped in some way or the other by the harshness of this land. Overnight stay.
